Seller · product · listing · evidence

A familiar marketplace is not the whole supply chain.

Online marketplaces can connect shoppers with many third-party sellers. Check who is selling, identify the exact product and keep the listing evidence before it changes or disappears.

Follow the listing back to the product

Product-safety decisions depend on traceability. The useful trail joins the listing and seller to a specific brand, model, batch or serial number—then compares those identifiers with reliable safety information.

01

Seller

Capture the displayed seller and legal or trading identity, location and contact details where shown.

02

Product

Match the brand, model, variant, SKU, barcode, batch and relevant components such as a charger.

03

Listing

Review warnings, instructions, materials, traceability and detailed comments without treating reviews as verification.

Build a traceable buying decision

Use these prompts to build a reliable account. Do not take risks, recreate a failure, dismantle a suspect product or expose private payment information just to collect evidence.

01

Know the seller

A marketplace may facilitate a sale without owning or dispatching the stock.

02

Match identifiers

A similar name or appearance is not enough to match a recall or safety notice.

03

Read beyond stars

Look for consistent details about failures, quality and seller responses; reviews remain clues.

04

Keep a snapshot

Save the URL, listing ID, seller, date, order evidence and safe photos before the page changes.

Preserve the listing signal

Use Whistle on a supported marketplace listing or use the shared FOLO-UP form for a fuller concern. Follow the form's current prompts and include available identifiers and evidence wherever it allows. A signal is preserved for controlled human review; it is not a finding against the product or seller.

Important: A FOLO-UP report or Whistle flag is a listing signal submitted for evidence capture and controlled human review. It is not confirmation that a product or seller is unsafe, illegal, counterfeit, non-compliant or recalled.

FOLO-UP does not replace emergency or official reporting.
  • Immediate danger, fire or serious injury: move to safety and call 999.
  • Product-safety or suspected illegal-product concern: use the appropriate official route as well as FOLO-UP.
  • Scam or money lost: contact the bank or card provider immediately, then Report Fraud in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, or Police Scotland.
  • Ordinary fault, refund or cancellation: contact the seller or marketplace and use a consumer-rights route.

Check the primary source.

Official consumer guidance recommends checking seller and product details, applicable warnings and recall information. An empty recall search is not proof of safety.
